Airlines have had some rough years. Recessions, gas prices, terrorism – and now it's the slow season. So what is an airline to do? Delta has raised baggage fees to boost their income. The fees are for the first bag, for the second.
Since there doesn't seem to be a lot of literature on anything beyond two bags, so it seems they'll only let you check two. Obviously, if you can't fit everything into two, then you have to get back to the drawing board. Perhaps you could sell stuff off – and maybe you have some stuff people would get some secured loans to buy.
The advantage of the internet
You can save a little bit of money by checking in online and mentioning your bags when you do so. If you check in your bags online the first is and the second is . So if you are checking two bags, you can save by checking them in online. That said, to check two bags on top of everything else is still a bit of a gouge, isn't it?
Typically, January has lower ticket prices because hardly anyone wants to travel then. However, the lower ticket prices get canceled out really quickly if you start paying to check your bags.
The alternative
One reason a lot of people check bags is because of the restrictions that don’t allow you to carry liquid onto the plane. However, think about it this way: it would be cheaper to buy that stuff — shampoo, hairspray, face wash, whatever you need — once you get to your destination rather than paying or Delta baggage fees to check your bags.
Carry-on only is the best way to go. It saves time, and more importantly, money. If traveling, only bring what is needed. Think of things that would be better bought later on than packed.
