Increase In Oil Prices At The Highest For Ten Years
Crude oil prices have risen due to the cold weather sweeping across parts of Britain and the United States. There are forecasts for more cold weather in the United States which has led to further increases in the cost of a barrel of oil. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has now reached nearly eighty dollars which is the highest level for five weeks and this trend looks set to continue.
Crude oil reserves are decreasing because of the high demand for oil which comes with the cold weather. The price of a barrel of oil is expected to go higher than eighty dollars before long because of these continuing trends.
But with the demand for heating oil comes some signs that the United States economy is beginning to recover and that is good news. Consumer confidence is growing and there are definite signs that the worst recession since the Second World War is coming to an end.
The oil industry has seen its biggest rise in a decade with prices increasing by 78%. There hasn't been an increase as high since 1999 when oil prices rose by 112%. Reasons for the increase were the reduction in oil reserves and the weaker dollar. With many experts forecasting that the prices of oil will continue to rise some fear that the price of oil could reach heights of ninety five dollars a barrel in 2010. The price of oil will rise even more if there is a continued recovery of the American economy as businesses will begin to demand more oil.
There could also be further increases in prices if conflicts in some oil producing countries continue. There could be a sudden huge increase in the cost of oil if the supply from these countries were in any way interrupted.
Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
