Infertility Causes – Sex, Age & Lifestyle Factors
Symptoms from Infertility – Definitions
A couple is infertile when they are unable to have a baby after 12 months of regular and unprotected intercourse. Infertility is defined as the inability to reproduce.
Members of the couple react differently after being diagnosed to be infertile. Extreme reactions often come from couples who are childless.
Infertile couples who've never had children are classified under primary infertility.
On another note, secondary infertility refers to the condition where couples who already succeeded in having a baby are finding problems conceiving again.
The Man Factor
Various physical and emotional factors trigger infertility.
Around 30 to 40% of infertility cases in men are attributed to maleness factors like retrograde ejaculation, low sperm count, scarring from STDs, hormone problems, environmental pollutants, and others.
Sperm count is greatly affected by certain factors like frequent marijuana use or intake of prescription medicine such as nitrofurantoin, cimetidine and spironolactone.
Femaleness
Ovulation dysfunction, fallopian tube abnormality, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, scarring from STDs, hormonal imbalances, pelvic infection, poor nutrition, and tumors are just some of these "female factors." These make up between 40 and 50 % of infertility problems among couples.
Factors from both male and female, including other unknown causes, make up 10 to 30% of infertility cases.
It has been found that a small number, just 10 to 20%, of couples fail to conceive after trying for a year. It is essential for couples to keep trying to conceive for a year at the very least.
Age Influenced Factors
Healthy partners both below 30 years of age having intercourse regularly only have a 25 to 30% probability every month to become pregnant. The peak of a woman's fertility is in her 20s. Pregnancy for women more than 35 years old is 10% less, even lower for those over 40.
Other Causes Not Age Related
It is not just age or its related factors that causes infertility. Infertility may also be increased due to the following:
* Multiple sexual partners (higher possibility of getting STDs)
* STIs
* PID history (pelvic inflammatory disease)
* Orchitis or epididymitis history in males
* Men who've suffered mumps before
* Vein engorgement in the scrotum
* Health history citing DES exposure (both sexes)
* Eating and food disorders among females
* Irregular menstruation and anovulation
* Endometriosis
* Defects of the uterus (myomas) or blockage of the cervix
* Long-term disease like diabetes
