The warm fragrance of a scented candle will lift your spirts, even when the candle is not lit. When you arrive home tired and worn out from the day, the aroma & warm glow of a scented candle tends to loosen your tightness & lift your energy level.

Aromatic candles serve as wonderful gifts for all occasions and every season, and they are particularily meaningful when crafted by your own hands.

1. Choose Your {Candle Fragrance}

Fragrance oil can be purchased in most craft shops. Also, you may buy it online. I would suggest that you opt for fragrance oils rather than going for cheap water or alcohol based fragrances. Because your wax mix is oil based, your fragrance must also be oil based. Why? Well, as oil and water do not blend, water based perfume tends not to mix with the melted wax.

2. Choose Your Wax

The basics of {scented candle making} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Begin by choosing your wax type. The current day market offers a versatile range of wax starting with beeswax, palm or soy & moving on to gel or paraffin wax. You should decide on the fragrance intensity of your candles before selecting your wax. For example, lower density wax holds less fragrance than wax of a higher density.

3. The Process of Making Scented Candles

Now that we've talked about waxes, let's discuss the method for creating scented candles.

1st step is to melt your wax. For this purpose, a double boiler can be used. Meaning place the wax in a small pot & place that pot into a slightly larger container partially filled with tap water. Now heat the water. Use a thermometer to ensure the wax is not burnt. The temperature should be maintained at 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit.

When the wax is melted, put a wick in the mold & take the wax from the heat source. Next add the fragrance oil. A mixture of 1 ounce of fragrance oil to 1 pound of wax will create a fragrance level equal to 6% of candle density. Appreciate that larger portions of fragrance oil means the candle to burn out sooner.

Now pour your melted wax/fragrance mix into it's mold. The only task left is to let it the mold cool before removing your candle.

Congratulations! You're finished!

4. Experiment as You Go Along

You will gain great expertise in all phases of candle making once you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the art of candle making and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It's a great feeling to award your loved ones with a {homemade scented candle} knowing that they will find the fragrant essences both relaxing and invigorating.
