BPI Training – Understanding The House As An Integrated Structure Shows Commitment
One of the foundations of BPI training is learning to understand that a house is an integrated whole structure. Many building trade professionals look at a particular system are part of the house. For example, the electrician looks at the electrical panel and wiring. The roofer will look at the roof trusses and roofing materials. BPI certified professionals look at the entire structure. During training, they come to understand that inefficiency in one area will affect all other areas of the home. Inadequate building envelope can create uncomfortable drafts as well as escalating heating and cooling costs.
BPI training prepares professionals to assess a home for fundamental problems that cause a variety of symptoms. High heating bills usually come from inadequate insulation or drafty walls. BPI professionals will find the inadequate insulation or drafty walls and recommend to the customer to correct those core issues. By correcting the core issues, the symptom of a high heating bill should go away. BPI training comes from a nationally recognized set of standards developed by the Building Performance Institute. This group is a nonprofit organization focused on helping build a greener building industry. The group brings together experts from many fields to develop standards to make homes and other buildings more energy-efficient, safer, and healthier. While the building performance Institute does not provide training directly, they have partnerships with many training companies. These training companies help professionals gain their certification.
