What Can Cause Heating Oil Costs To Increase
In order to produce heating oil, petroleum or crude oil must be refined. Of the heating oil that is used worldwide the majority of it is used by residences. It is still a hugely popular form of home heating despite natural gas being one of the most widely used fuels in the world.
Heating oil prices depend largely on the supply and demand just like with other fuels such as natural gas. The trend in global crude oil will determine the price you pay for your heating oil. The price of heating oil is normally low if the amount of crude oil outweighs the demand for it. Normally the demand for heating oil is a lot lower during the warmer summer months so supply is usually high at these times. On the other hand, crude oil shortages can mean an increase in the price of heating oil. During the winter many more people want to buy crude oil products such as heating oil and this can also drive the prices up.
There are also other factors which can affect the price of heating oil. Sometimes prices are increased independently by a heating oil supplier and this makes many of their customers leave for a different supplier. Customers who have decided to stick with their oil supplier may then find a sudden decrease in their oil prices as the company fights to keep them.
Supply routes of oil can also be affected by harsh winter weather as well as the demand being increased. If the oil cannot get to its destination in the expected time, this can negatively affect the prices. Plus getting oil to more rural homes can be quite expensive and this must be factored into the overall price for heating oil. If you can get your oil prices fixed however, you may find that you are better off in the long run.
Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with heating oil to make sure they don't run dry in the cold weather.
